How to merge videos online for free
Animoto is the quickest and easiest way to combine multiple videos for free. Let’s dive right in!
1. Sign up for free and start a project from scratch
First things first, just sign up for a free account. We recommend starting with a template so you have a pro-designed layout, colors, fonts, the whole shebang.
But if you just want to merge existing clips, start a project from scratch.
2. Choose your aspect ratio and video style

Before you begin, select the aspect ratio for your final video. If you have video clips that are different aspect ratios, it’s no problem! We’ll show you how to arrange them below.
For a seamless start between your video clips–no transitions, no breaks– head over to the design tab, click on video settings, and select the “Clean” video style.
3. Upload your video clips
Now it’s time to start merging your clips.
Here are some options for quickly getting your media into your project.
- Drag and drop from your device.
- Connect and import media from cloud storage.
- Scan the QR code to upload from your phone.
- Send a private share link to collect media from other people. It will appear in your media library after refreshing your project.
Pro tip: You can add photos to your project as well!
4. Add a media frame and drag it into your project
Now let’s add your video clips to your project.
Click on the plus icon next to the play button and choose a full-frame media layout if you don’t want any blank space around your clip.
Then, just drag your clip into the frame.

You can also trim your clip by selecting it, clicking on the scissors icon, and using the bumpers to trim your video.
5. Duplicate your block and add your second clip
To add additional clips, just duplicate your block and then drag your second clip into the new block. It will automatically replace the media that was in the frame before it.
Then just repeat for as many clips as you’d like.
Pro tip: Head to the audio tab and remove the song if you only want your original audio in your video.
6. Your videos are merged!
Now just hit the play button to see your videos merged into one cohesive video! But the fun doesn’t have to stop here.
If you’re happy with your video as is, you can download it, send a private viewing link, or post it directly to social media. But, if you want to add a professional touch to your video, we’ve got some tips and tutorials for that as well.
How to edit your merged videos
All of Animoto’s editing tools are drag-and-drop easy. With these simple steps, you can turn your merged videos into a polished video.
Use multiple aspect ratios

Want to stitch together videos with multiple aspect ratios? It’s easy!
Click on the plus sign next to the play button and add a new "Background" block to your video. Then, drag your clip into your block. Resize it and position it in the center of your video, and you're done!

To make it feel more cohesive, you can change the background color, add graphic animated elements, or even create a blurred, layered background by duplicating your clip.

Choose a different video style
If you want to choose a different transition between your clips, you have a couple of options.
The first is more subtle.

Head over to your design tab and open your video settings. Click through a few of the video styles to preview the transitions between each block in your video.

For a more dramatic transition, you can change the individual media frame’s style. To do this, just click on your clip and select the change frame button. Then, use the drop-down menu to preview different styles for your media frame and select the one you like best.
Just keep in mind that different transitions may show more or less of your background. You can change the background color here in the video settings tab to apply it to your entire video, or change the background color of each individual block.
Add text and elements

Add context to your video, drive action, and boost engagement by using text and elements. Simply add a text box and choose a font and color that stands out. To add a background behind your text and help it stand out, you can add an element! Elements can also be used to highlight and emphasize key parts of your video.
Add music
Finally, add a background music track to tie it all together from start to finish. Our library has hundreds of licensed songs to choose from, so your video is never at risk of being taken down for copyright infringement. Add up to eight tracks to your video, then adjust the volume so it doesn’t distract from your clips.
