Looking to add a professional touch to your videos by layering visuals and text seamlessly? Adjusting opacity is a simple way to control the transparency of your media—giving your content a polished, modern look. In this quick tutorial, we’ll walk you through how to adjust opacity in Animoto in just a few clicks.

Opacity refers to how transparent or visible an image, video, or element is. Lowering opacity makes visuals see-through, while increasing it makes them more solid.
Ensure your message is always clear by lowering the opacity of a background image or video. This helps your text stay readable and visually balanced across every scene.
Create subtle visual interest by layering transparent media or elements. Adjusting opacity lets your design feel more dynamic without overwhelming the viewer.
Use opacity to soften harsh visuals or blend scenes together. This simple effect can help you achieve a polished, film-like aesthetic in just a few clicks.
Click on the photo or video you'd like to edit. Once selected, a toolbar will appear at the top of the media.
Try selecting background visuals first—those are often the best candidates for opacity tweaks, especially when layering with text or overlays.
Find and click the fourth icon in the toolbar—it looks like a teardrop and is labeled “Change opacity.”
Hover over toolbar icons to reveal helpful tooltips if you’re not sure which one controls opacity.
A slider will appear that lets you change how transparent your media is. Drag left to decrease opacity or right to increase it. You’ll see your changes in real time.
A good rule of thumb—set opacity around 20–40% when placing text on top of an image for clear readability.
